Yesterday afternoon the commuter rail train did something I've never seen it do before. It sailed right past Yawkey, starting to slow only as it reached the platform. At this point, I figured it was the earlier express running late. Then it stopped a couple hundred feet past the end of the platform. Then it sat there for a few minutes. Then slowly, slowly it backed up so there were 2 doors available. As we got on, we joked that it would stop halfway between Newtonville & West Newton. It didn't, but it was *awfully* far forward when it did stop.

This morning, it sort of made up for the lapse yesterday. I had to meet another parent at school (I'm helping mark up the math challenge papers) at 8:30. Usually, the train leaves at 8:33, and it's hopeless. Today I got to the platform at 8:41, figuring I'd get the 9:00 train that's much less convenient (doesn't stop at Yawkey, requires some minor fiddling to get back here). Instead, the platform was full of people and the train arrived at [edit] 8:42. I think that's the only time that the train has picked to be late on a day when it was useful for it to be so.
